La Jollan Sal Usman Honored by 2-1-1 San Diego

La Jolla Copy Cove owner Sal Usman was recently named the recipient of 2-1-1 San Diego's Volunteer of the Year Award for his unwaivering commitment to the local nonprofit and those who depend on it.

Each year at its annual Connections Luncheon, 2-1-1 San Diego recognizes a volunteer who has provided exceptional support to the organization. Named after Henry Haimsohn, the chair of the 2-1-1 Board of Directors from 2002 to 2009, and a longstanding community leader and 2-1-1 San Diego volunteer for more than a decade, the Henry Haimsohn Volunteer of the Year Award is a distinguished award honoring an outstanding individual for their volunteerism, leadership and dedication to making 2-1-1 San Diego a success.

At this year's Annual 2-1-1 Connections Luncheon, Sal Usman received quite a surprise when his name was read aloud to a room of more than 700 attendees. Not only does Sal's company, Copy Cove, donate countless hours to ensure the 2-1-1 image is presented well, he himself has played an active role on 2-1-1 San Diego's Disaster Response Team for more than five years. As a volunteer, Sal has helped get critical information and resources to people dealing with disasters of all shapes and sizes, including the 2007 wild fires, hurricanes on the East Coast, the H1N1 outbreak and dozens of other local emergencies.
