I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “it’s all about who you know” and that certainly seems to be true here in San Diego. Luckily, our new roommate and fast friend, Alex, is the perfect person to know because in turn he knows everyone else you’d ever need to know. Alex works at Bar West in Pacific Beach, which is located right in the heart of the amazing beach town on Hornblend Avenue. The bar has an amazing happy hour complete with Oscars tacos, cheap beers, mixed drinks and a chill atmosphere that’s perfect for hanging out with friends. Later in the night the bar becomes a club that has bottle service, lots of room to dance and all kinds of DJs that perform. As if this wasn’t enough reason for us to go there Alex set everything up for us so that we would have a table in the VIP section with all of our new roommates.
We went to Bar West for happy hour and right from when I walked in I was surprised at how much room there was inside. It was sleek and modern, but still had such a chill vibe to it, which is what I always look for in happy hour – a couple of drinks, some good food and most importantly good energy. We got chips and salsa to start and the salsa was delicious, spicy and fresh. Then Alex brought us out all different kinds of tacos, including a vegan one for me with fresh vegetables and the works. Amanda tried the ceviche, which she loved so the food was an all around hit. After some drinks we headed home to get ready for round 2 and a night out with our new friends.
When we arrived at the bar it was such a different scene than it had been during the day. All we had to do was say Alex’s name and we didn’t have to wait on the long line that was forming in the front of the basically transformed club. We got right in where we were directed to the VIP section with tables and bottle service. This area of the bar is right in the pit with the DJ so if you’re going to Bar West for an event such as a birthday, bachelor party or just with a big group of people this is where you want to be. We had our own cocktail server who brought over more vodka than anyone should ever drink and kept our glasses full the entire night. The DJ was great and the crowd had so much energy it was impossible not to get up and dance. It was also a really great time bonding with all of the new people in our lives.

Even though we are lucky enough to know Alex and have the perks of being treated so well at Bar West, I highly recommend anyone who wants to have a good time check out this spot. Whether it’s for the delicious food at happy hour or a crazy night out with friends, this bar has it all. Also, knowing Alex and his bubbly, friendly, outgoing personality you might just end up meeting him on a night he’s working and making a great connection with not only a wonderful businessman, but also an all around amazing guy. You also might find yourself running into Amanda and I because this is definitely a spot that we can’t wait to go back to for another wild, fun time.
