Body Found by Pokemon Go Players in San Diego Park

Three women came across the body while they were playing the game, police said.

San Diego, CA — A body was found Thursday in a San Diego park by Pokemon Go players.

Three women who were playing the virtual scavenger hunt game that takes people out into parks and other public places were in Marian Bear Memorial Park —in the 5500 block of Regents Road in Clairemont — at about 3 p.m. Thursday when they came across a dead man, San Diego police Spokesman Travis Easter told Patch.

The man appeared to have died from natural causes and there did not seem to be any signs of foul play, Easter said.

"He passed away down there and just hadn't been found," Easter said.

Although an investigation is continuing into the death, he said there did not appear to be anything suspicious about it.

Pokemon Go players have also come across bodies in Wyoming and New Hampshire, according to news reports.

The game uses a smartphone’s GPS and camera to turn the real world into a gigantic scavenger hunt. Players' smartphones vibrate to let them know when a Pokémon is near. Players then throw a PokéBall to catch it and add it to their PokéDex.
