Eight eager Grade 3 Gillispie School students participated in a KUSI Mother’s Day television segment this Wednesday, May 8, at Adelaide's flower shop in downtown La Jolla.

The students hand-potted blooming succulents under the instruction of Larry Anhorn, Adelaide's flower designer and Creative Director.

During the lesson, KUSI Reporter Mike Castellucci asked students about the potting process, which included the use of lava rock, fertile soil, moss, and plant adhesive.

The segment was filmed live for the “Good Morning San Diego” KUSI program.

The students' finished products turned out beautifully. Adelaide’s generously encouraged the students to take home their creations with a handwritten card attached for mom.

Adelaide’s Flower Shop and The Gillispie School have both been a part of the La Jolla community for generations. Adelaide’s first opened shop in La Jolla roughly 75 years ago, and The Gillispie School has been operating at its current Girard Avenue location for 60 years.

The Gillispie School would like to send a big Thank You to KUSI and Adelaide’s for inviting the students to participate in this wonderful event!
