California Cities Named Hardest-Working In America: LIST

A total of 17 California cities made WalletHub's list, including the top two in the country.

CALIFORNIA – California might be known for its so-called "laid-back lifestyle," but in reality, the Golden State has some of the hardest-working people. In fact, California has the top two hardest-working cities in the country, according to a new study by WalletHub.

San Francisco is the hardest-working city in America, followed by Fremont, according to the personal finance website. The two Bay Area cities aren't the only cities in California represented in the rankings. A total of 17 California cities made WalletHub's list.

Also in the Bay Area, Oakland ranked sixth. San Jose just missed the top 10 and landed in the 11th spot on the list. Los Angeles ranked 12th.

In order to determine where Americans work the hardest, the study's authors compared the 116 largest cities across nine key metrics. The data set ranged from average workweek hours to employment rates.
