Controlled Burns Planned Sunday At Miramar Air Station

Smoke will likely be visible in surrounding areas and from the freeways, officials said.

MIRAMAR, CA – The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Fire Department will conduct prescribed burns at East Miramar Sunday, June 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Prescribed burns are conducted to remove hazardous fuel growth and are part of the air station's annual vegetation-management program to reduce the risk of wildfires, officials said. They involve the by-hand application of fire to predetermined stands of vegetation.

The burns are conducted only under specific conditions where such factors as temperature, humidity, winds and the vegetation's moisture are favorable.
