Girls Teams at LJHS, LJCD, Bishop's Still in the Hunt

La Jolla High to meet fellow Western League member Coronado for SoCal Regional title; Country Day and Bishop's still could meet in hoops final.

The high school winter sports season just doesn't want to end in La Jolla, with girls teams at all three area school–La Jolla High, La Jolla Country Day and Bishop's–still competing for glory beyond the San Diego Section.

They will travel 100 or more miles up the freeway to decide which will be Southern California Regional Division II girls soccer champion, but La Jolla High and Western League rival Coronado will play at 5 p.m. Friday in the final at Warren High School in Downey.

The second-seeded Vikings advanced with a 2-0 semifinal victory Wednesday over sixth-seeded Bishop Amat of La Puente. Callan Parra collected both goals and Gabby Dubick recorded the shutout in goal for La Jolla.

Fourth-seeded Coronado upset top-seeded Santa Margarita 2-0 to earn its finals berth against the Vikings. The two teams split their Western League games, with each winning on the other team's home field. La Jolla's 7-1-2 league mark edged out Coronado's 7-2-1 for the Western League crown.

In Division III, the Bishop's girls team, seeded second, will host No. 3 seed Oaks Christian of Westlake at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal game. In the quarterfinals, each team shut out lower-seeded opponents by lopsided scores.

In girls basketball Division IV regional quarterfinal action, top-seeded La Jolla Country Day hosts JSerra of San Juan Capistrano at 7 Thursday night, while at the same time, third-seeded Bishop's will be hosting LACES (Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies). The two La Jolla schools had byes into this round and could possibly meet in the division final March 19.
