La Jolla Double Fatality Crash Suspect Jailed

A man was behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and crashing a vehicle which left two dead.

LA JOLLA, CA — A driving under the influence suspect who crashed a car off a La Jolla street and killed two was behind bars Tuesday, San Diego police said. The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter, police said.

Peter John Meno, 26, lost control of a Nissan Altima he was driving while speeding to the south in the 7500 block of Girard Avenue about 3:15 a.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police.

Meno jumped a curb in the Nissan and struck a palm tree before coming to a stop in the street.

Jaden Rowley, 22, of Oceanside and Matthew Cate Jr., 19, of Vista, were pronounced dead at the scene the county Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Meno was treated at a hospital for minor injuries before being booked into San Diego Central Jail. He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Dec. 4.
