Learn about San Diego’s Chinese American History

A discussion on Saturday at UCSD's library will delve into the Chinese American community of our city.

This weekend, Geisel Library is conducting a special discussion on the Chinese American history that we have right here in San Diego.

Murray K. Lee, author of the book In Search of Gold Mountain: A History of the Chinese in San Diego, California, will be at the Geisel Library on Saturday to discuss his new book as well as discuss the Chinese American history in San Diego.

Lee is the curator of Chinese American history over at the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum. You’ll be able to learn fascinating history and hear stories of Chinese immigrants in San Diego from 1860 to the late 1900s, who were some of San Diego’s earliest pioneers.

According to a UCSD press release, Lee’s book chronicles the “struggle, discrimination, resilience, and success of San Diego’s historic Chinese community. “ In Search of Gold Mountain took 27 years of research and included the hunting down of historic photographs, books and documents that have been preserved in the Asian Pacific Historic Thematic district downtown.

Attend this meet and greet with Lee, sponsored by the Librarians Association of UC San Diego’s Committee on Diversity, in UCSD’s Geisel Library on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 2-4 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
