LJCD Suffers First Loss; Vikings Also Fall

Santa Fe Christian hands the Torreys a 49-14 setback while La Jolla loses to Point Loma 31-8.

La Jolla Country Day fell hard from the ranks of the unbeaten Friday night as Santa Fe Christian High quarterback Connor Moore threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to carry SFC to a 49-14 Coastal League victory.

The Torreys (6-1, 1-1) trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter after Moore's two scoring passes when Sage Burmeister scored on a 70-yard run after the snap from a shotgun formation went off quarterback Eddie Garcia and ended up in Burmeister's arms. It was 21-7 at the half in favor of the Eagles (6-1, 2-0).

Daniel Henry caught a 12-yard pass from Garcia for LJCD's second touchdown, but three turnovers, including two interceptions, hurt the Torreys' chances. Garcia was sacked five times, offsetting Burmeister's 129 yards rushing on 20 carries.
