Homecoming a Happy One as La Jolla Edges Serra
The Vikings pick up their first Western League win and snap a six-game skid with a 10-3 victory.
The iffy weather mostly cooperated, and so did the opposition as the football team scored a safety and touchdown in the second half to beat Serra High 10-3 in the Vikings' homecoming game Friday night.
La Jolla (2-7, 1-3) trailed at the half 3-0 and pulled within a point in the third quarter when Dylan Walsh blocked a Serra (3-6, 0-4) punt out of the end zone. About four minutes into the fourth quarter, quarterback Bobby Schuman carried it in from a yard out and Kenneth Martey added the two-point conversion to complete the comeback.
Martey (110 yards on 19 carries) and Dillon Cromwell (81 yards, 17 carries) led a Viking ground attack that netted 294 yards. Schuman threw just four passes, completing three for 19 yards.
