Girls use their conversational skills and social preferences to learn math.
Research shows that girls tend to be skillful in conversation, and that girls, ages 5 to 15, prefer to interact socially with other girls. In addition, many girls are less likely to speak up during a co-ed math lesson to avoid looking too smart (or confused) in front of boys.
Math Goddesses gives girls an opportunity to use the social skills and preferences they already have to improve their math learning and build confidence in math, in an all-girl setting.

Talking about math is important because it develops an understanding of math and of the precise language of mathematics. It also brings feelings that interfere with learning math to the surface so that they can be addressed.
Talking about math does not occur by itself. It must be learned and practiced. Over time, students deepen their math understanding, develop mathematical language and become better learners.
