Moped Rider, 71, Severely Injured On La Jolla Boulevard
The Vespa moped rider was struck while traversing southbound on La Jolla Boulevard on Monday.
LA JOLLA, CA — A 71-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run driver struck his moped in La Jolla, authorities said Monday.
The victim was riding a 2025 Vespa moped southbound on La Jolla Boulevard at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego Police Department. As he entered the intersection at Nautilus Street on a green light, an unknown driver in a black Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound ran a red light and collided with him, police said.
The driver of the Nissan, manufactured between 2008 and 2013, fled the scene immediately after the crash, they added.

The victim was taken to a hospital with severe injuries, including a fractured pelvis with internal bleeding, a brain bleed, a collapsed lung and multiple rib fractures.
