Oceana and ‘Friday Night Lights’ Aimee Teegarden Visit La Jolla

An international ocean conservation organization and actress Aimee Teegarden filmed a public service announcement in La Jolla to raise awareness of the ocean's unique and sensitive habitats.

The beaches and waters of La Jolla are front and center in Oceana’s latest public service announcement featuring actress Aimee Teegarden of Friday Night Lights.

Oceana filmed Teegarden at the , and diving at Santa Barbara Island to raise awareness about the need to protect the ocean’s special habitats. Teegarden, a California native, free dove with sea lions, navigated kelp forests, surfed some waves and flocked in the surf for the shoot.

“It’s amazing that hidden treasures like this exist all over the ocean – you just have to look for them. It’s really upsetting to think about an awesome place like the sea lion rookery being destroyed by destructive fishing, pollution, or anything else harmful,” said Teegarden in an announcement. The sea lions were filmed 40 miles offshore of Los Angeles at Santa Barbara Island, part of the Channel Islands National Park. “This experience made it clear that we need to identify these unique and important areas in the ocean and do whatever we can to save them. I love that Oceana finds the special places like this and then fights to protect them.”
