Photos: Locals Host Fundraiser for Tibet

Nearly 100 supporters, including actress Jennifer Beals, attended An Evening for Tibet: a Benefit for International Campaign for Tibet on April 17 in La Jolla.

As the three local universities prepared for the visit to San Diego last week, a party gathered at the home of Pam and Jerry Cesak in La Jolla on Tuesday to raise money for the International Campaign for Tibet, an organization dedicated to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet.

The event was the only fundraiser planned in relation to His Holiness' first official visit to San Diego that directly benefitted the people of Tibet.

"An Evening for Tibet" at the Cesak's Muirlands home attracted numerous supporters of the International Campaign for Tibet, including actress Jennifer Beals and Lodi Gyari, special envoy to the Dalai Lama.

Gyari has been charged by the Dalai Lama to lead negotiations with the government of China, served as a diplomat in Washington D.C., and is recognized as a reincarnation of a Buddhist master of the Nyingma lineage. He mingled with guests the entire evening.

Pam Cesak, a board member with the International Campaign for Tibet, and her husband Jerry, of the Jeff and Jer Showgram on KYXY, had the opportunity to meet Gyari last year and visit with the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala.
