Well here I am! A resident of San Diego for 22 years, a business owner in La Jolla for the past 3, and finally dipping my toes into social media. Sometimes I wonder what remains of the idealistic child that came to the US 40+ years ago from Hong Kong. It has been quite the journey!
My professional background is in the physical sciences; I've worked on projects as diverse as space nuclear power reactors to particle beam accelerators. I walked away from that 3 years ago to take on the challenge and opportunity of running two businesses in partnership with my wife. I still do a small bit of consulting, but my focus is mainly on developing the Counseling Clinics of La Jolla and the La Jolla Professional Building into viable business entities.
I can tell you that being your own boss is an invigorating, if at time terrifying experience. The successes are yours, as well as the failures. I hope that my musings will help others who may want to explore working for themselves, get a sense of how it develops. I also hope to motivate my community to become more engaged in itself; I'm a member of the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla, and the societal good that a service organization like the Kiwanis do is just simply amazing.
I invite you all to join me,as I ruminate on the challenges of running a couple of small businesses, and being a good citizen in the community. That and I'll throw in an occasional tidbit into the workings of all things nuclear.
