Skateboarder Fatally Struck By Vehicle Near UC San Diego

Police said a man fell in the roadway before he was struck and killed by a driver in La Jolla.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was fatally struck by a car in La Jolla after he fell from his skateboard, police said Saturday. Police said he was skating near UC San Diego on Voight drive around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

His age and identity had not confirmed yet but Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department told Patch that officers estimated he was around 19 to 20 years old.

A 20-year-old man was driving westbound in a Nissan Maxima and ran over the man while he was still lying in the middle of the roadway, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Traffic Division officers are handling the investigation and would likely release his identity on Monday, Martinez said.
