If there’s one thing Amanda and I love it’s Thai food. This is something that we ate a lot of back where we’re from because New York City has no shortage of authentic, delicious Thai food anywhere that you go. Luckily, it seems that Pacific Beach and the other surrounding areas have the same love for the cuisine as we do. It was a Sunday night when we set off down Morena Blvd towards Garnet in search of some grub to end the long day of errands with. It was surprisingly packed in PB for a Sunday night and the fact that its summer had everyone partying no matter what workday tomorrow was. Since it was a bit later we had a bit of a hard time finding a spot that was open past 9:30, but as I called listing after listing on Urban Spoon (an extremely useful APP on the IPhone that can find you great places to eat) I finally found a place called Thai Village, located on Mission Blvd. It seemed like a cute place and was open until 10:30 with plenty of people still sitting down and eating when we arrived. This is always important to me because there’s nothing worse than when you’re trying to close a restaurant after a long day and people expect the kitchen to stay open just for them.
As usual we were starving by the time we sat down to order our meals. We got a Thai salad to start, which is my favorite because of the amazing peanut sauce dressing that it comes with, and it was a fresh and flavorful start to the meal. Our waiter was very sweet and brought us over some hot green tea right away, which was much needed and very welcomed as we ordered our meals. Amanda can usually be expected to get the classic Pad Thai, her favorite, and tonight was no exception (don’t chance something when you’re starved!) and I ordered tofu and vegetable in spicy cashew nut sauce, which makes me mouth water even as I’m typing this. We decided to be good and got our tofu steamed rather than fried, a small feat for mankind on a Sunday. Both of our meals came out promptly and as we dug in we knew that the only disappointment we would have was the fact that we would not be able to visit Thai Village again soon due to our oath. All of the vegetables and tofu were steamed, crisp and tasty. My meal came with a big helping of brown rice and Amanda’s noodles were cooked to perfection.
Even though it was a little after 10 when we began eating we never felt rushed or like we were being annoying customers, but since everything was so delicious we didn’t take long to polish off our food. It was only a little after 10:30 when we left the restaurant feeling full, satisfied, but not disgusting. This is something that is also very important to us because although when we go out to eat we want to leave feeling filled up, we hate the feeling of explosion because the food was heavy and clearly not that healthy for you. I was happy to walk out with that feeling nowhere in sight and a big, instant Thai Village fan. On the way home we passed a place called Baked Bear, which is a small store near the beach that sells ice cream sandwiches to your liking. All customers get to choose between a brownie, a waffle or their favorite, freshly baked cookie with any kind of ice cream smashed in between two of them. Although I don’t eat ice cream because I’m a Vegan I’m dying for Amanda to try one so that I can write about it and report to all of you guys how delicious it is. Thai Village proved to be too filling for her tonight, but one day soon we’ll have to visit Baked Bear and have her test it out.
