Trivia: How to Speak Surfer, Dude

Surfers have a language all their own, and although surf culture is known for its laid back, cool vibe, the jargon can actually be quite complicated. Case in point, the term gnarly, alone, has three listed variations in the surfer dictionary at Riptionary.com. 

On Saturday, the La Jolla Shores Surfing Association will host its annual Menehune Contest where grommets can enter to test their skills in longboard, shortboard and novice divisions. No doubt, there will be a ton of lingo-laden discussion taking place in between rides, so, in order to get amped and ready for the day’s events, we’re offering you a warm up in swell discussion.
