15 DUIs, 20 Crashes In Temecula Valley Christmas Weekend: CHP

Here are the stats from the CHP's "maximum enforcement period" throughout Southwest Riverside County.

TEMECULA VALLEY, CA — More than a dozen people were arrested and a half-dozen more were hurt on Temecula Valley roadways over the Christmas holiday weekend, California Highway Patrol officials tell Patch. The agency was in a "maximum enforcement period," or MEP, between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday, meaning all available officers were working and assigned to patrolling the streets.

Local officers arrested a total of 15 drivers in Southwest Riverside County on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, CHP Officer Mike Lassig tells Patch.

Six crashes involving injuries occurred, along with 14 more "property damage only" crashes, Lassig said.

The CHP issued 170 traffic citations during the Christmas MEP in the Temecula Valley, he said.

Statewide, a total of 917 people were arrested during the maximum enforcement period. Officers are expected to be out in full force again during New Year's weekend.
