Is 20-Year Incumbent Ken Calvert Avoiding a Debate with Tim Sheridan?

While he is home, Rep. Calvert should find time to debate Tim Sheridan. The voters of California's 42nd District deserve nothing less.

Tim Sheridan, the Democratic Party’s candidate in California’s 42nd District, again called on his opponent, 20-year incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert to agree to debate. In July, the Lake Elsinore Citizen’s Committee invited both candidates to debate in late September. Mr. Sheridan immediately agreed. Mr. Calvert did not. A spokesperson said that Mr. Calvert might have responsibilities in Washington through October that would prevent his participation.

However, it was recently announced that Mr. Calvert will be in the District on September 23rd to attend an event in Corona. (http://www.coronanorcorepublicanwomen.com/calendarevents.html)

“Mr. Calvert should find time while he is home that week and debate Tim Sheridan,” Kerry Meuchel, Vice Chair of the Sheridan campaign said. “The voters of California’s 42nd District deserve nothing less.”

According to reports, other incumbent members of Congress have agreed to debate their opponents, including Mark Takano, Raul Ruiz and Duncan Hunter.

“We have told the Lake Elsinore Citizens Committee that our campaign would pay for the venue for the debate if that became necessary,” Meuchel said. “It would not cost Mr. Calvert or his campaign a dime,” he added.
