33 Drivers Tested For Sobriety Amid Canyon Lake DUI Enforcement: Cops
No, you cannot drive a golf cart while impaired in Canyon Lake or anywhere, officials say. DUI is enforceable on public and private roads.

CANYON LAKE, CA — The Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Department deputies conducted 33 traffic stops and as many field sobriety tests during Friday's driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and overall traffic safety enforcement operation.
The safety operation lasted from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. and resulted in the following:
- 33 - Traffic Stops
- 33 - Field Sobriety Tests
- 4 - Drivers Arrested for Driving Under the Influence
- 23 - Citations issued
- 4 - Vehicles impounded
This operation was conducted in response to the increased number of traffic collisions involving drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol and or drugs in the City of Canyon Lake, according to Sgt. Brad Foster.

This includes both vehicles and golf carts, officers said.
As a reminder, DUI and Reckless Driving can be enforced on any public or private roadway in California.

“While the City of Canyon Lake has some private roads, they are not immune from DUI enforcement,” Councilwoman Kasey Castillo said in July. “Family-oriented community has zero tolerance for these types of incidents. Do not drink and drive in Canyon Lake.”
Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to “Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1.”
