55-Hour Ortega Highway Shutdown This Weekend: OC To Lake Elsinore

The shutdown starts at 9 p.m. Friday from the Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano to the Orange County line, west of Lake Elsinore.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A full 55-hour closure of state Route 74 — from the Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano to the Orange County line, just west of Lake Elsinore — begins Friday night.

The March 11-14 closure starts at 9 p.m. Friday and continues through 4 a.m. Monday as part of the ongoing Safety Improvement Project that began last year.

The closure only impacts Orange County to Riverside County access, and motorists leaving Riverside County will have access to Ortega Highway throughout the weekend.

Motorists are advised that travel from Orange County to Riverside County will be impossible during the construction. Motorists traveling on the Ortega Highway to Riverside County this weekend are asked to obey electronic signs informing drivers of alternate routes, CalTrans said.
