6,000 Runners Sprint Through Lake Elsinore And Wildomar During 200-Mile Ragnar Relay

The 200-mile Ragnar Relay began in Huntington Beach Friday morning, made its way to town Friday afternoon, and finishes in Coronado.

Just what were all those runners -- nearly 6,000 in all -- doing in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar late Friday afternoon? And what was the deal with all the white vans?

It was all part of the Ragnar Relay Series race, and it's no little 5K run.

The 200-mile race began in Huntington Beach early Friday morning, then headed eastward toward Norco, and south to Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

While in town Friday afternoon and evening, the runners came through Temescal Canyon Road, then headed west on Lake Street. They continued southward to Wildomar, with several stations along the way. The corner of Grand Avenue and Clinton Keith Road was just one of many race stations set up in town.

Ragnar participants are relaying in teams of 12 runners each, taking turns on the course, and a designated driver (in a white van!) is shuttling resting runners along the way.
