750 Pounds Of Fireworks Seized In Lake Elsinore Over 4th Of July Weekend: Sheriff

Authorities issued 33 citations for possession of fireworks, and six criminal violations.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Authorities seized about 750 pounds of fireworks and issued 33 citations, as well as six criminal cases, during a fireworks enforcement operation over the Fourth of July weekend in Lake Elsinore.

The sheriff's department's special enforcement team and investigations bureau in Lake Elsinore conducted the enforcement operation, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities issued 33 citations for possession of fireworks, and six criminal violations for possession with intent to distribute fireworks. All of the fireworks seized were to be destroyed later by the sheriff's hazardous devices team.

Throughout the operation, in addition to issuing citations, residents were educated about the dangers associated with lighting illegal fireworks in their communities, authorities said.

The sheriff's department reminded the community that every year, lightning and the possession of dangerous fireworks leads to medical emergencies, which are sometimes fatal.
