MEAD VALLEY, CA — A brush fire that erupted Thursday in a field west of Interstate 215 in Mead Valley scorched nearly an acre before crews got it partially contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:30 p.m. in the area of Cajalco Road and Clark Street, about a mile from the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a slow rate through medium vegetation, in the vicinity of a home, fire officials said.
Crews quickly established hose lays and prevented the brusher from reaching the residence, according to reports from the scene.
As of 2 p.m., firefighters had encircled most of the burn zone, but not the head of the blaze, which was bounded by roads.
Sheriff's deputies shut down Cajalco, between Brown Street to the west and Day Street to the east, covering three-quarters of a mile, as a safety precaution.
No evacuations were necessary.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
