MEAD VALLEY, CA — A brush fire that erupted Thursday afternoon in Mead Valley charred about six acres before fire crews were able to stop it from spreading, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded to the scene and encountered the brush fire burning at a moderate rate through vegetation.

Due to limited access via dirt roads, firefighters could not quickly respond to the blaze; two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter fought the brush fire about about 20 minutes.

The fire's forward rate of spread was stopped just after 2 p.m.

No homes or structures were threatened, and no evacuations were reported.

The blaze is expected to be fully contained around 4 p.m.

No additional information was immediately available.
