WILDOMAR, CA — A driver was shot Thursday afternoon, and police quickly arrested the suspected shooter.

An investigation into the vehicle-to-vehicle shooting began at 3:27 p.m. in the area of Clinton Keith Road and Palomar Street near Renaissance Plaza, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Deirdre Vickers.

Police responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was driving when the shooting occurred, and paramedics rushed the driver to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"During the investigation, deputies learned the shooting occurred while the victim was driving in the La Cresta area and obtained a description of the suspect vehicle," Vickers told Patch. "With assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s K9 Unit, the suspect was located in the 32000 block of Clinton Keith Road and taken into custody without incident."

Authorities did not release information about the suspect or the victim, nor what led up to the shooting.

Police closed off portions of the shopping center for hours Thursday afternoon for the ongoing investigation.
