MENIFEE, CA — One person was arrested and 25 motorists were cited during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint held in Menifee on Saturday, police said.
The checkpoint was staged at Lindenberger and Scott roads between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m., resulting in 767 vehicles being screened, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Police said one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. In addition, eight motorists were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and 17 were cited for various driving violations.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and have their license suspended.
The DUI checkpoint was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
