Crews Slow Spread Of RivCo Brush Fire, 10 Acres Charred: Cal Fire

MEAD VALLEY, CA — Firefighters slowed the spread of a brush fire that broke out Thursday afternoon in Mead Valley, which charred about 10 acres, fire officials said.

The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. near Amelia and Old Elsinore roads, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials said multiple engines responded to the brush fire and encountered flames moving at a moderate through medium brush toward several homes.

By 3:25 p.m., two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters initiated runs on the brusher, halting its forward rate of spread a few minutes later, according to reports from the scene.

As of 3:45 p.m., crews had established hose lays and were digging containment lines, but only a few hot spots remained, officials said.

No homes or other structures were damaged, and no evacuation orders were issued.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
