WILDOMAR, CA — A brush fire that erupted Friday in Wildomar charred about seven acres and briefly threatened homes before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 35500 block of Iodine Springs Road, near La Estrella Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine and hand crews from the county and Murrieta Fire & Rescue were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through thick vegetation fronting a dry channel.

Residential properties in the immediate vicinity of Iodine and Montecito Drive were in the path of the flames until a bulldozer crew dug a wide dirt fire break that closed off the brusher's western flank, according to reports from the scene.

No evacuations were necessary.

A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter made one run on the brusher before departing the location.

The fire's forward rate of spread was halted at 2:35 p.m., and it was over 50% contained an hour later, officials said.

Crews were expected to finish mopping up before 5:30 p.m.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
