Menifee Police Conducting DUI Patrols July 23

Police said impaired driving can include prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs that may interfere with driving.

MENIFEE, CA - Menifee police will be conducting a DUI patrol Thursday night for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"DUIs are 100 percent preventable and when somebody makes the bad decision to drive impaired; it can potentially have lifelong effects," said Sgt. Dan Beare of the Menifee Police Department.

"Driving while under the influence of alcohol, and/or drugs, is dangerous and potentially deadly. It not only affects the driver but so many families and friends too," he added.

The Menifee Police Department said impaired driving is not just alcohol, and can include prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. In addition, though medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Motorists suspected of driving impaired and charged with DUI face up to $13,500 in fines and penalties, and could have their driver's license suspended.

Funding for Menifee's DUI patrol operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
