HOMELAND, CA — The motorcyclist who died following a collision with a mini van in Homeland earlier this week was identified Wednesday as a 28-year-old local resident.
Samuel Martinez was killed in a crash reported at 4:22 p.m. Monday in the 31500 block of McWade Ave., about a quarter mile south of Highway 74, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a Dodge van and motorcycle impacted. Martinez was found in the middle of the roadway in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived. He was transported to a hospital in Moreno Valley where he died less than an hour later, authorities said.
No other injuries were reported. The driver of the van stopped after the collision, according to the CHP.
The CHP said a handgun was found in the road, apparently belonging to the victim, which officers took into possession.
The van driver was detained for questioning, but there were no reports of an arrest.
An autopsy on the victim was pending Wednesday.
