It was burning in heavy fuels at a slow rate of spread and initially posed a threat to nearby structures, prompting authorities to close San Jacinto between Aloha Road and Lukens Lane, Wood said. It was unclear how many homes were evacuated.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
