RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A man accused of fatally assaulting his 70-year-old father in the victim's Mead Valley home and robbing three other people around the same time will stand trial on first-degree murder and other charges, court records confirmed Monday.
Juan Manuel Gonzalez, 48, was arrested last December following a Riverside County Sheriff's Department investigation into the slaying of Angel Gonzalez.
At the end of a preliminary hearing Friday afternoon, Superior Court Judge Francisco Navarro found there was sufficient evidence to bound the defendant over for trial on the murder count, as well as three counts of robbery.
Navarro scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment for Gonzalez on Sept. 28 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
He's being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail.
According to sheriff's Sgt. Alberto Loureiro, the victim was attacked in the predawn hours of Nov. 30, 2025, in the 20000 block of Clark Street, near Rider Street.
Loureiro did not disclose specifics about the alleged assault, including a possible motive and weapon, saying only the perpetrator was quickly identified as the victim's son.
When deputies found the senior at the property, he was unconscious and gravely injured. First responders attempted CPR, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later, according to Loureiro.
He said Central Homicide Unit detectives turned their attention to Juan Gonzalez, who was taken into custody without incident on North Perris Boulevard in Perris later that day.
Three men were allegedly robbed by the defendant prior to his arrest. They were identified only by their initials -- "A.C.," "M.A." and "M.V."
The exact circumstances were not provided.
Gonzalez has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
