Lake Elsinore's New $31.3M Civic Center Opening This Week In Historic Downtown

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The grand opening of Lake Elsinore's new $31.3 million Civic Center is slated for Thursday, and the public is invited to attend an event city officials are calling "the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the community."

The free-to-attend grand opening celebration will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 1, kicking off with a ribbon-cutting for the new 40,000-square-foot, four-story building at the corner of Main Street and Graham Avenue in historic downtown.

The modern facility consolidates municipal operations, housing City Hall offices, a guest lobby with a reception area, City Council chambers, conference rooms, an outdoor rooftop plaza with views of the lake, and a centerpiece display featuring the city's historic Fire Engine No. 1.

The facility relies on nearby surface parking rather than a multi-level structure. Free event parking and shuttle service for Thursday's grand opening will be available at 184 S. Main St.

The new structure sits adjacent to the current City Hall at 130 S. Main St. Built in 1932, the old brick building with turquoise exterior trim reflects downtown Lake Elsinore's historic architecture.

Incorporated in 1888, Lake Elsinore is the second-oldest city in Riverside County after the city of Riverside, which was incorporated in 1883. Main Street serves as Lake Elsinore's primary downtown corridor, featuring brick inlay along walkways and vintage-style street lamps.

Main Street is also anchored by the Lake Elsinore Cultural Center, dedicated in 1924, which serves as a Riverside County Historical Landmark and currently hosts City Council meetings.

The new Civic Center forms a central component of downtown revitalization efforts. City Council approved the project on May 10, 2022, and construction began in late 2023.

Additional downtown developments include a 10,000-square-foot public library under construction at Main Street and Sumner Avenue, which is expected to open by the end of the year.

Crews also installed a new "Historic Main Street" entryway arch in August, alongside beautification projects near the Interstate 15 and Main Street interchange.
