WINCHESTER, CA — Riverside County firefighters rescued two motorists Sunday after two separate vehicles became trapped in flooded roadways.
Personnel from the Riverside County Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on a flooded roadway with rising water on Domenigoni Parkway and Leon Road in Winchester around 8:50 a.m. Sunday. Rescue crews accessed the vehicle and safely escorted the sole occupant to higher ground.
A hard closure of Leon Road between Olive Avenue and Domenigoni Parkway remained in effect due to flooding.
Rescue crews also responded to the intersection of E. San Jacinto Avenue and Murrieta Road in Perris around 9:25 a.m. Sunday. The sole occupant of that vehicle was able to climb onto its roof to await rescue, and a swiftwater rescue team deployed an inflatable rescue boat to reach the person and safely escort the motorist out, according to the fire department.
No injuries were reported in the Winchester incident, but the person rescued from the Perris flood was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
