Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore) visited the city of Canyon Lake Saturday morning for her monthly coffee meeting with constituents.
About 50 residents turned out to hear from the assemblywoman as the legislative session ended last week.
"I wanted to spend some time to hear from those I represent and understand not everyone can come out during the week," Melendez said. "I'm pleased so many people turned out to play an active role in the governing of our state."
With a number of anti-gun bills on the governor's desk, legislation limiting the rights of the second amendment was a hot topic, as was driver's licenses for those unlawfully in California and the recent hike of the minimum wage.
"I do a better job representing my district when I get to hear directly from them," Melendez said.
