Big Rigs Collide On Interstate 15 In Riverside County Prompting SigAlert

EASTVALE, CA — Three big rigs collided Monday on Interstate 15 in Eastvale, injuring a trucker and causing one of the semis to spring a leak, prompting lane closures on the crowded freeway.

The crash was reported just before noon on northbound I-15, between Philadelphia Avenue and the Pomona (60) Freeway interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Fire Department.

The CHP said the tractor-trailers impacted for unknown reasons in the No. 3 lane, after which all three came to a stop.

Officers reached the location within a few minutes and discovered a sizable leak emanating from one of the tractor-trailers, at which point two traffic lanes were shut down, according to reports from the scene. Two lanes remained open.

A Sigalert was issued at 12:20 p.m. due to the lane closures and ensuing traffic jam.

Firefighters arrived about a half-hour later, at the request of officers, and confirmed one of the truckers had suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.

The other drivers were not hurt. No one was identified.

Crews determined the leak was radiator fluid and not a safety hazard, according to the fire department.

As of 1 p.m., the lanes were still shut down. However, the closures were expected to be lifted by 2 p.m.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.
