Brush Fire Ignites Near Lake Mathews: 8 Acres Burn

Firefighters launched a fast attack from the air and ground on the blaze that began shortly before 10 a.m.

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — A brush fire that ignited near Lake Mathews Friday morning was halted, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokesperson Tawny Castro.

The brusher began just before 9:45 a.m., in the 17000 block of Pinyon Drive in Lake Mathews. Forward progress was halted by 11:30 a.m., and a total of 8.2 acres burned during the incident. Firefighters will remain in the area to conduct mop-up until at least 2 p.m., she said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene on reports of the blaze burning in light fuels. "Multiple air and ground resources were assigned to the incident, making quick work of halting the blaze," Cal Fire reported.

No one was injured, and no evacuations were ordered as a result of the blaze.
