Cemetery Hosting Christmas Decorating Contest: Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Celebrating the holidays without a loved one can make the season a little less bright. Elsinore Valley Cemetery District is offering a way to bring some cheer.

The cemetery at 18170 Collier Avenue is hosting a Christmas decorating contest. Those with a family grave, or graves, at Elsinore Valley Cemetery District are invited to bring holiday decorations and a tree to sit at the resting places.

The gravesides with the best merry-making will win gift cards: $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third. (No public funds will be used to purchase the gift cards, according to the district.)

There are a few decorating rules. Trees can be no more than 3-feet high and must be secured to the ground with plastic or wood; no metal stakes are allowed. Battery-operated lights can be used on trees only and must be secured to branches. Only plastic tree ornaments are allowed. Any decorations not secured to the tree cannot be over 30 inches tall.

Judging will take place Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.
