Ortega Highway Crackdown Scheduled: CHP

Marked patrol vehicles will be looking out for drivers who speed, pass unsafely, drive under the influence, and violate right-of-way.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — In an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle-related fatalities and injuries on Ortega Highway, the California Highway Patrol announced it will conduct a two-day “proactive enforcement” on the winding roadway beginning Saturday.

The stretch of SR-74 between Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore and the Riverside/Orange County line is the targeted area for the July 18-19 enforcement, according to the CHP.

Marked patrol vehicles will be looking out for drivers who speed, pass unsafely, drive under the influence, and those who violate right-of-way. According to the CHP, these types of violations cause the majority of Ortega Highway crashes.
