LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Lake Elsinore Unified School District officials reported there was a burglary this week at the Alberhill Elementary School construction site, and police are investigating the incident.

Early Monday, two people drove a stolen white van onto the site on Brianna Circle after cutting through chained and locked gates. The thieves made off with "a small number" of hand tools from the property, according to the LEUSD.

The stolen van was abandoned at the site and a driver in a getaway vehicle gave the thieves a lift, according to the district.

There are several security protocols in place at the site, including 24-hour surveillance video that police are reviewing.

Despite the break-in, the district said the Alberhill Elementary School is still on track to open in August. Construction at the site began last summer. The school will serve grades TK-5.
