Coroner IDs Man Fatally Struck By 2 Vehicles After Exiting His Disabled Truck On 91 Freeway

CORONA, CA — A man who was struck and killed by two vehicles after he exited his disabled truck on the 91 Freeway over the weekend in Corona has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday, Eddie Chavarria IV, 48, of Riverside, was fatally struck on the eastbound side of the freeway, approximately 885 feet west of S. Promenade Avenue.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a vehicle blocking the No. 2 lane of the eastbound Riverside (91) Freeway FasTrak lanes.

The man left his disabled Dodge Ram truck and ran to the No. 1 lane of the main freeway lanes before he was struck by a Honda HRV, according to KTLA5. He was then also run over by a Honda Civic, according to the report.

The involved drivers remained at the scene and no intoxication was suspected, according to the media outlet.

The CHP temporarily closed all lanes on the eastbound side of the freeway. The incident remains under investigation by the CHP.
