Coroner IDs RivCo Bicyclist Fatally Struck Crossing The Street

HEMET, CA — The identity of a 40-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle in Hemet was released Tuesday by the Riverside County Sheriff's Coroner's Bureau, following notification of next of kin.
Ricardo Olvera Hernandez of Hemet was fatally injured shortly before 6:50 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Florida and Hamilton avenues.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a bicyclist in the roadway suffering from major injuries and initiated life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Hernandez was attempting to cross Florida Avenue in front of a delivery truck when the truck, traveling westbound on Florida Avenue at an unconfirmed speed, collided with the bicyclist.
The truck driver, whose identity was not revealed, was cooperative with investigators at the scene, police said.

Florida Avenue between Western Avenue and Elk Street was closed for several hours. It was reopened at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
