COVID In Riverside County: Updated Data

Coronavirus cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to climb, but the vaccination rate is also nudging upward, albeit slowly.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — There are no immediate signs of the coronavirus spread slowing in Riverside County, although the county's vaccination rate continues to very slowly creep up.

According to the Riverside University Health System, the number of people hospitalized for COVID countywide was 645 on Wednesday, up 20 from the prior day, and up 116 over the last week.

Of the 645 total, 137 of those patients were in intensive care units Wednesday, five more than the prior day and 31 more than a week ago, according to RUHS data.

The COVID death toll is also rising, as expected. A total of 4,713 deaths from virus-related complications are now recorded, an uptick of six since Tuesday and 24 more than a week ago. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can date back weeks, according to health officials.

New cases continue to climb. The number of infections recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 stood at 330,327 on Wednesday, an increase of 1,143 new cases reported since Tuesday and 6,749 new cases since one week ago, according to RUHS data.

The vaccination rate has crept up in the county. As of Wednesday, 52.7 percent of county residents 12 and older are now fully vaccinated. One week ago, the figure was below 52 percent. Information on vaccination is available via https://www.rivcoph.org/coronavirus.
