Person Shot In Elsinore Walmart Lot Before Crashing Off Road

BREAKING UPDATE: Sheriff's officials tell Patch that one person is dead in the incident.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A shooting at an area parking lot on Monday ended in one death after the man ended up crashing off the side of a nearby road, sheriff's officials tell Patch. The incident led to an hours-long closure in the area of Railroad Canyon Road and Church Street as law enforcement personnel and paramedics rushed to the scene to investigate.

The crash was reported at 3:41 p.m. and when crews got to the scene, they found a vehicle had gone 75 feet off the side of the roadway, according to April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials responded to the scene and set up a rope system to access the vehicle — and soon found the person at the wheel had been shot, according to sheriff's and fire officials. Sheriff's officials later learned that the person was shot while in the parking lot of the local Walmart, which is about a mile away from the crash site, about 10 minutes prior to the wreck.
