Deadly Skydiving Accident Reported In Lake Elsinore

The man — visiting from South Korea — was attempting his first solo jump, according to officials.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A South Korean national attempting his first solo jump from a plane suffered fatal injuries in a hard landing in Lake Elsinore this week, the sheriff's department reports. The accident happened around 1:37 p.m. Wednesday.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Luke Torres, police were called to an open field north of Skylark Airport after a parachutist experienced a hard landing.

"Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious male and began administering life saving measures," Torres said in a news release. "The victim was subsequently transported to a local area hospital via ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries."

Torres said the man was visiting from South Korea and was performing his first solo jump. He will be identified after next of kin is notified.

Additional details about the skydiving mishap were not available.
