Dia De Los Muertos Celebrated In Lake Elsinore, 2022
The city of Lake Elsinore is planning a huge Dia De Los Muertos celebration on Historic Main Street Saturday. Here's what to expect.
LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The city of Lake Elsinore is planning a return for the Dia De Los Muertos celebration in 2022.
Guests are invited to attend the block party from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 on Historic Main Street.
The Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a two-day holiday that, according to custom, reunites the living and the dead. Families create offerings to honor departed family members — brightly decked altars flooded with marigold flowers, as well as providing favorite foods and drinks of the honorees. The Day of the Dead Holiday website says: "It is a rare holiday, celebrating both death and life, and unlike any holiday where mourning is exchanged for celebration."

This event focuses on traditional themes and experiences, a city spokesperson said. All who attend will be immersed in traditional music and dance, with artists and vendors as well as crafts for children, food and multiple altars.
"There will be a massive community altar in front of the cultural center," according to Jovanny Huerta, Special Events Manager for the City of Lake Elsinore.

This is the first time in two years that the city has held this special celebration, according to Huerta.
There will be a 20-foot-tall La Catrina figure, the symbol of the holiday that commemorates and we will have live entertainment along with traditional Dia De Los Muertos Dancers Aztecas and finally the blessing of the altars."
