Eastbound 91 In Corona To Fully Close For 56 Hours This Weekend

CORONA, CA — Motorists planning to travel east on state Route 91 through Corona this weekend might want to reconsider.

The Riverside County Transportation Commission announced Monday that a full closure of the eastbound side of the freeway will take place from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure is scheduled from the Main Street exit to just west of Interstate 15. The 15/91 Interchange will remain open, according to the RCTC.

The closure — originally planned to take place Aug. 26-29 — is part of the $12.6 million 91 Refresh Project. The project includes lane repaving and repairing sound walls and concrete barriers along the outer portions of eastbound and westbound 91 in Corona. Work is taking place mainly between the Lincoln Avenue interchange and Interstate 15, an area with a long history of roadway settlement due to the Temescal Wash, according to the RCTC.

Those who cannot avoid travel on eastbound 91 this weekend should plan for heavy delays and use these detours:

  • From southbound I-15, exit at Magnolia Ave., enter northbound I-15, and use the 15/91 connector to eastbound 91.
  • From northbound I-15, exit at Hidden Valley Pkwy., enter southbound I-15, and use the 15/91 connector to eastbound 91.

The work will take place through the fall with additional weekend closures to be scheduled, the RCTC reported.

Construction activity is subject to change due to weather, staffing or other factors. If the repaving cannot be completed this weekend, it will be rescheduled as soon as possible, according to the RCTC.
